Grilling Safety Tips

Summer is right around the corner and that means warmer weather, dinners on the patio or deck, and grilling season.

Whether you prefer to grill meats or veggies, now is a good time to review grilling safety tips from the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA):

  • Place the grill well away from the home and deck railings. Also, keep the grill from under eaves and any overhanging branches.

  • Keep children and pets at least three feet away from the grilling area.

  • Keep the grill clean – remove grease or fat buildup from the grills and in the trays below the grill.

  • Never leave the grill unattended.

  • If using a gas grill, make sure the lid is open before lighting it.

  • If using a charcoal grill, when you are finished grilling, let the coals completely cool before disposing them in a metal container.

These tips will not only help prevent burn injuries, but grill fires as well. Enjoy cooking on the grill this summer and stay safe!
